The Media Center is Looking for Heroes!

View Last Year's Local Heroes Highlights

Our local heroes just keep getting more heroic!

We are soliciting nominations for our third annual Local Heroes Award. If you know a hero, please submit your nomination. Six winners will be featured in interviews that will air on the Media Center channels and put on the Web. You can see last year's honorees on our Local Heroes page.

Who's a Hero?
  1. A person who has contributed "over and above" to the community, overcome a significant hardship or attained an important goal
  2. A person somewhat "unsung" or not usually in the limelight
  3. A person with a compelling story to tell.
Because the winners' interviews will be televised, it's especially important that there's a compelling story to tell. We are hoping to find heroes who are also articulate and engaging!

To nominate a Local Hero,
please send email to...

lupita@midpenmedia.org

...and include:
  • Your name and contact information
  • The name and contact information of the person you are nominating
  • A brief description of why your nominee should be selected
The deadline is Friday, October 10, 2008. For more information call 650.494.8686 ext. 36.

We look forward to hearing from you and to honoring our community heroes!

Election Programming

It's that time of year when our mailboxes start to fill up with slick candidate flyers and arguments pro or con on one measure or another. We care about choosing good people to represent us and having a say on all the measures about libraries, bullet trains, renewable energy investments, redistricting etc. but how can one make intelligent choices?

The Media Center works overtime throughout the election season to bring you comprehensive resources that go way beyond the glossy mailers to help you compare candidates and compare pros against cons. We have partnered with the League of Women Voters branches in Palo Alto and South San Mateo County to organize and videotape forums. Please consider attending some of the forums listed on our web site.

In addition to city council candidate debates in three midpeninsula cities, there will be a doubleheader debate at the Media Center TV studio on two upcoming state initiatives. There will be candidate forums for state representatives and for Superior Court judges.

Also watch the web page listed above for the subsequent cable TV playbacks and internet uploads you can check out in October. It will also feature candidate statements for some races for which there will be no forum.

Don't be a "rubber-stamper" in this election. Get informed and vote with confidence and conviction!

Sincerely,
Citizen Elliot
