Our Digiquest 2009 Summer Camp has come to a close. We went out with a bang, holding a final Screening & Awards Ceremony this past Sunday. The camps offered this summer were Movie Editing, Movie Production and TV Studio Production. Highlights from each camp were screened and each camper received an award honoring their talents and contributions to the camp. Thanks to our amazing instructors, Ana Simoes and Mark Wright, and our powerhouse interns for making it all happen! Keep an eye out for Digiquest 2010!

Palo Alto Story Project Launched by the Palo Alto Weekly
The Palo Alto Weekly launched the PALO ALTO STORY PROJECT this past weekend. They videotaped clips of locals telling their favorite Palo Alto story. The taping of these 1-3 minute informal videos took place at the Palo Alto Weekly's booth at the Palo Alto Arts Festival both Saturday and Sunday.
I, of course, had to tell a story and then get the inside scoop from the Weekly staff who were manning the booth. The Story Project videos will be posted over a several month period on Palo Alto Online.
You can check out Lisa Van Dusen telling her Palo Alto story.
For more information, contact Palo Alto Weekly Editorial Assistant Karla Kane at kkane@paweekly.com.
This is a great idea! I wish I had thought of it.

Blog Site about Community Media 2.0 with Audio Interview Clips
The Media Center’s founding (and former) Executive Director, Elliot Margolies, has been interviewing leaders in community media to explore our history and what makes for a relevant media center in today’s Internet 2.0 cyberscape. The interviews are divided into numerous subclips so you can easily swoop in and listen to what you’re looking for. Elliot recommends the interview with Laurie Cirivello for anyone curious about another vanguard media center (Grand Rapids, MI) and the range of contemporary services that can be offered. There are also interviews with George Stoney and Sue Buske two of the first practitioners/developers of public access TV.

WHO'S WATCHING? - MC Viewer Survey Results - You Can Help
Currently our channels are delivered via Comcast subscription service to 33,000 households in the cities of Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton and Stanford.
The Media Center commissioned an independent survey in 2004. The survey was performed by Group W Communications LLC.
395 households in our service area were surveyed:
134 Non Subscribers (do not subscribe to Comcast)
88 Viewing Subscribers
173 Non-viewing Subscribers
---
395 TOTAL
SUMMARY
1. 261 respondents or 66 % of the surveyed households subscribe to Comcast
2. 160 respondents or over 40 % of surveyed households were aware of the Media Center
3. Of the 160 respondents who were aware of the Media Center, respondents became aware of the Media Center in the following way:
33.0% Channel Surfing
30.2% Don't recall
10.4% Word of Mouth
8.5% Newspaper
5.7% Surfing the Net
5.7% Cable Coop
6.6% Other
4. 89 or 34% of the 261 subscriber respondents watch Channels 27, 28 or 30
5. These 89 viewers were then asked how often they watch:
19 viewers or 21% say they watch a few times a month
6 viewers or 6.8% say they watch a few times a week
THE BIG PICTURE
So if we go into 33,000 households and 40% of Comcast subscribers know about the Media Center (as the survey indicates), doesn't that mean that 13,200 households in our service area are aware of the Media Center? And if 34% of subscribers watch our channels, doesn't that mean that 11,220 households watch our channels? And of these households, we extrapolate that 2,356 watch a few times per month and 763 households watch several times a week.
CONCLUSIONS
40% of Comcast subscribers know about us!
34% of subscribers watch us occasionally!
10% of subscribers watch us regularly!
THE CHALLENGE
Our viewers are loyal and consistent, but why do only 40% of subscribers know about us? Our challenge is to raise community awareness.
WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS?
Get back to me with your ideas about how to increase our visibility. We perform a vital service here but volunteers are the folks that really get the work done. We can do more! Let me hear from you!
